New Relic is a great product/service that is extremely powerful and easy to use. They even have iOS/Android apps to stay up-to-date on server stats while away from your desk.
The best thing about this software is that it provides really good deep insights. They provide a feature called ‘VM’ it provides information regarding garbage collection, heap, memory allocations, object allocations etc. Error insights and alerts helps you to stay updated with what is currently happening with your application.
The ease of creating the simple synthetic alerts has been great. Coupled with the alerting setup in place we created an alert system that creates a JIRA ticket which based on the jira ticket then sends a pagerDuty notification
All the monitoring statistics it captures is updated in real time (or close to it) and can also go back in time. This lets both our operations and engineering teams to get a good understanding of the application’s performance from few months back to the present.
Price will be one of the major considerations for APM as it is not a cheap product. New Relic are very easy to deal with so worth contacting support and getting a trial (and getting help setting up) so you can fully evaluate to see the value this can bring to you.
