X (formerly Twitter) still moves faster than any other social network. A post can pull attention to your brand within minutes and lose it just as quickly, which is why most businesses that take X seriously use at least one tool to schedule, monitor, or measure their activity.
The catch: a lot of the Twitter tools recommended in older lists, including the 2020 version of this article, no longer work. X's API pricing changes between 2023 and 2026 shut down some tools, pushed others behind paywalls, and forced the rest to rebuild. This guide lists the tools that still work with X in 2026, what each one is actually good for, and what it costs.
Quick answer: the best X (Twitter) marketing tools in 2026
- Best for X-first creators and founders: Typefully (free plan; Pro from $8 per month billed annually).
- Best budget all-in-one for Indian SMBs and small agencies: SocialPilot (India pricing from ₹2,000 per month for the Standard plan).
- Best free scheduler: Buffer (free for 3 channels, 10 queued posts each).
- Best for customer service on X: Agorapulse (unified inbox, from $79 per user per month billed annually).
- Best for follower audits and cleanup: Circleboom (free plan for one profile).
- Best for enterprise social listening: Brandwatch (quote-based).
- Best native option: X Premium for analytics, and X Pro (formerly TweetDeck) for real-time monitoring, which now requires Premium+.

What changed on X, and why many old Twitter tools stopped working
Most third-party X tools depend on X's API, the official channel apps use to read posts and publish on your behalf. When X ended free API access in 2023, tools that relied on high-volume reading (follower analytics, trend maps, follow/unfollow helpers) suddenly faced costs they couldn't cover.
The pricing kept shifting after that. In February 2026, X made pay-per-use the default for new developers, charging roughly $0.015 per post created, $0.20 per post that contains a link, and $0.005 per post read. The older flat Basic and Pro subscriptions were closed to new sign-ups. See X's API pricing documentation for current rates.
For you as a buyer, this has three practical effects. Tools that mainly read data from X, such as analytics and listening tools, are more expensive to run and tend to price accordingly. Features can change with little notice when X changes its terms. And a tool that looked active in 2022 may no longer work at all, even if its website is still online.
What happened to the tools in the original 2020 list
| Tool (2020 list) | What happened | What to use instead |
|---|---|---|
| Tweepi | Went offline after the April 2023 API cutoff and refunded customers. | Followerwonk for discovery, Circleboom for audits. Follow people manually. |
| Crowdfire | Shut down on May 15, 2025. | Buffer or SocialPilot |
| TweetDeck | Renamed X Pro. Moved behind X Premium in August 2023, then Premium+ on March 26, 2026. | X Pro with Premium+, or the monitoring streams in Agorapulse or Hootsuite |
| Twitter Analytics | Now X Analytics. Account analytics have required X Premium since June 2024. | X Analytics with Premium, or the analytics inside your scheduler |
| Tweepsmap | Rebranded as Fedica. | Fedica |
| TweetReach (Union Metrics) | Moved to "Listen, powered by Brandwatch"; the free hashtag reports ended. | Brandwatch or Keyhole |
| Klear | Acquired by Meltwater in 2021 and renamed Meltwater Influencer Marketing in April 2024. | Meltwater Influencer Marketing |
| Mentionmapp | Reported shut down or inactive after the API restrictions. | Audiense or Brandwatch |
| LeadSift | Acquired by IDG (now Foundry) in December 2021; now a B2B intent-data product, not an X tool. | Not a like-for-like replacement; see our lead generation tools |
| Unmetric | Acquired by Falcon.io (Cision) in 2019. | Brandwatch |
| Tweriod, iTrended, Tagboard, Hashtagify, RiteTag, StatSocial | Removed from this list because we could not confirm a current, working X integration in September 2026. | See the categories below |
How we chose these tools
Every tool in this guide had to pass four checks in September 2026:
- It works with X today, either through X's official API or as part of X itself. We excluded anything that scrapes the website or automates your browser, because X can permanently suspend accounts for that.
- It does a clear job well. A scheduler, an audience tool, and a listening tool solve different problems, so we grouped them by job rather than ranking them against each other.
- Its pricing is published or verifiable. We checked each vendor's pricing page and cross-checked with independent pricing trackers. Where figures conflicted or weren't published, we say so.
- It suits small and mid-sized businesses, especially in India. Enterprise tools are included only where there's no real small-business alternative.
No vendor paid for placement. Some links may be affiliate links, which never change our recommendations; see our affiliate disclaimer.
Best X-first writing and scheduling tools
These tools are built around X itself. They're the right choice if X is your main channel, for example if you're a founder building in public, a creator, or a B2B brand whose buyers are active on X.
1. Typefully
Typefully started as a distraction-free thread composer and is still the cleanest place to write for X. You see an accurate preview while you write, long text splits into a thread automatically, and posts go into a schedule. It now also publishes to LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon.
- Best for: founders and creators who write threads and long posts.
- Key X features: thread editor, scheduling, X analytics and AI writing on Pro, team collaboration on Business.
- Price: Free; Pro $10/month ($8 billed annually); Business $20/month ($18 annually), each per social set.
- Watch out for: the free plan allows only 15 posts a month and has no AI. It doesn't publish to Instagram or Facebook.
2. Tweet Hunter
Tweet Hunter, from lempire, pairs a scheduler with a large library of high-performing posts you can search for ideas and formats. The Grow plan adds an AI writer and a lightweight X CRM for building lists of people you want to engage with.
- Best for: accounts that want help generating ideas and drafting consistently.
- Key X features: viral post library, thread scheduling, evergreen reposting, X analytics, AI writer (Grow).
- Price: Discover $29/month; Grow $49/month; Enterprise $200/month. Annual billing is cheaper.
- Watch out for: automated DMs and replies must stay within X's automation rules (see below). Use them only for people who engaged with you first.
3. Buffer
Buffer isn't X-specific, but it's the simplest and cheapest way to keep a steady posting queue on X alongside a couple of other networks. The free plan is a real working plan, not just a trial.
- Best for: solo marketers and small businesses that mainly need scheduling.
- Key X features: queue-based scheduling, content calendar, AI assistant, basic analytics, community inbox.
- Price: Free for up to 3 channels (10 queued posts each). Essentials $6 per channel per month ($5 annually). Team $12 per channel ($10 annually) with approval workflows.
- Watch out for: per-channel billing adds up once you manage many accounts, and the free plan keeps only 30 days of analytics.
Best all-in-one social media suites for X
If X is one channel among several, a suite saves you from juggling separate tools. The main differences are how they charge (per user or per plan) and whether they're built around publishing, the inbox, or reporting.
5. Hootsuite
Hootsuite is one of the oldest social media dashboards and still one of the broadest, publishing to X and around ten other networks from one calendar. It's built for teams that need governance and reporting across many profiles.
- Best for: mid-size and larger teams managing many networks.
- Key X features: publishing, monitoring streams, inbox, custom reports; enterprise-level listening.
- Price: Standard $99 per user per month billed annually (10 accounts). Professional $199 per user. Advanced $399 per user, which adds approval workflows.
- Watch out for: per-user pricing makes it expensive for small teams compared with SocialPilot or Buffer.
6. Agorapulse
Agorapulse is built around its inbox. Mentions, replies, and messages from X land in one queue alongside your other networks, which makes it a strong choice if customers use X for support questions or complaints.
- Best for: brands that handle customer conversations on X.
- Key X features: unified inbox, saved searches, scheduling and queues, labels, reports.
- Price: Standard $79 per user per month billed annually ($99 monthly), 10 profiles. Professional $119 adds approvals and inbox assignment. 30-day trial with no card required.
- Watch out for: no internal approvals on Standard, and every extra user costs the full seat price.
7. Sprout Social
Sprout Social is the reporting-first option. Its analytics and presentation-ready reports are the main reason teams pick it, especially when social results go to leadership or clients every month.
- Best for: teams that need polished reporting and a shared inbox.
- Key X features: publishing, Smart Inbox, keyword monitoring (Standard and up), competitor insights (Professional).
- Price: Essentials $79 per seat per month billed annually (publishing only, 5 profiles). Standard $199 per seat adds the Smart Inbox and monitoring.
- Watch out for: social listening is a separate add-on, and contracts are typically annual.
8. Statusbrew
Statusbrew stands out for its rule engine, which can hide, tag, or route comments automatically based on keywords. It's useful for brands that get high comment volume or need to moderate spam and abuse.
- Best for: brands with busy comment sections and moderation needs.
- Key X features: unified inbox, publishing, reporting, rule-based comment moderation (Standard and up).
- Price: Lite $89/month for 1 user and 5 profiles. Standard $179/month ($129 annually) for 3 users and 10 profiles.
- Watch out for: extra users and profiles are charged on top of the plan, and Lite can't be expanded.
X’s own tools: X Analytics and X Pro
X now charges for its own business tools through its subscriptions. They're worth knowing about because third-party tools can't fully replace them, and because they explain why "free Twitter analytics" searches often lead nowhere.
9. X Analytics
X Analytics shows impressions, engagement rate, profile visits, link clicks, video performance, and audience details for your own account. Since June 2024, account analytics have required an X Premium subscription.
- Best for: anyone who wants X's own numbers for a single account.
- Price in India: X Premium is ₹427/month on web or ₹470/month in the mobile app. Premium also includes the verified checkmark, post editing, longer posts, and higher Grok usage limits.
- Watch out for: it covers one account only and offers no competitor data. Schedulers like Buffer and SocialPilot include their own X analytics.
10. X Pro (formerly TweetDeck)
X Pro is the multi-column dashboard formerly called TweetDeck. You can watch lists, searches, notifications, and several accounts side by side in real time. It's still the best tool for following a live event, a product launch, or breaking news.
- Best for: real-time monitoring during launches, events, and crises.
- Price: requires X Premium+ since March 26, 2026: ₹2,570/month on web in India, or about $40/month in the US.
- Watch out for: it's a monitoring tool, not a growth or reporting tool. It has no posting queue or analytics exports.
Is TweetDeck still free? No. TweetDeck became X Pro in 2023 and has required a paid subscription since August 2023. Since March 26, 2026, it has required the top-tier Premium+ plan.
Best X analytics and audience tools
These tools answer questions about who follows you and who you should reach: finding relevant accounts, auditing fake or inactive followers, and understanding your audience's interests.
11. Followerwonk
Followerwonk lets you search X bios by keyword, compare accounts, and analyse followers by location, activity, and influence. It's a practical way to find journalists, partners, or potential customers in a niche without mass-following.
- Best for: audience research and finding relevant accounts to engage with manually.
- Price: free for one profile; Target $29/month for up to 3 profiles; Multitask $79/month for up to 20.
- Watch out for: the interface is dated, and it doesn't publish or schedule.
12. Circleboom
Circleboom focuses on account hygiene. It finds fake, spam, and inactive followers and accounts you follow, and it includes smart search and basic scheduling. It's the most common replacement for tools like Tweepi.
- Best for: cleaning up an older account and auditing follower quality.
- Price: free plan for one profile with limits. Paid X plans start at about $28/month, with lower rates on annual billing.
- Watch out for: keep bulk unfollows small and spread out. X treats aggressive unfollowing as a rule violation.
13. Fedica (formerly Tweepsmap)
Fedica is the renamed Tweepsmap. It combines scheduling, analytics, listening, and follower analysis, including tracking who unfollowed you, across X, Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn, and other networks.
- Best for: tracking follower changes and audience location across platforms.
- Price: small free tier; paid plans from about $24/month. Discounted plans are available for nonprofits.
- Watch out for: the free tier is closer to a trial than a working plan.
14. Audiense
Audiense is an audience intelligence platform. It segments audiences by demographics, interests, affinities, and job roles, which helps with positioning, influencer selection, and campaign planning rather than day-to-day posting.
- Best for: research-led brands and agencies planning campaigns.
- Price: the X marketing plan starts from $948 per year; the Insights product is quote-based.
- Watch out for: it's overkill for a small account posting a few times a week.
15. Twitonomy
Twitonomy, from the 2020 list, still provides detailed analytics on any public account: posting patterns, most-engaged posts, mentions, and hashtags, with exports to Excel and PDF. It's handy for quick competitor snapshots.
- Best for: one-off competitor and profile analysis.
- Price: free version, with a paid premium tier (check the site for the current price).
- Watch out for: check how far back the data goes before relying on it; API limits have narrowed what many analytics tools can pull.
Best X social listening and monitoring tools
Listening tools track what people say about your brand, competitors, or industry on X, including posts that don't tag you. Because they read large volumes of posts, they're the category most affected by X's API pricing.
16. Brandwatch
Brandwatch is an enterprise platform covering listening, publishing, analytics, and competitor benchmarking. It absorbed several tools from the original list, including TweetReach (via Union Metrics) and, through its parent company Cision, Unmetric.
- Best for: large brands and agencies that need deep listening and sentiment data.
- Price: quote-based.
- Watch out for: budget and setup effort are significant; it isn't built for small businesses.
17. Keyhole
Keyhole tracks hashtags, keywords, and accounts in real time and turns them into campaign reports. It also tracks influencer performance during live campaigns and offers historical data.
- Best for: agencies reporting on hashtag campaigns and events.
- Price: about $179/month for the Professional plan; confirm current pricing with Keyhole.
- Watch out for: it's a reporting tool, so you'll still need a scheduler.
18. Twilert
Twilert, also from the 2020 list, is a simpler alerting tool. You set keywords, exclusions, users, location, and language, and it sends matching X posts to your inbox as a digest or in real time.
- Best for: small teams that want brand-mention alerts without a full listening platform.
- Price: paid plans with a trial; check the vendor site for current pricing.
- Watch out for: alerts only, with limited analysis.
Free X marketing tools that still work in 2026
Genuinely free options are rarer than they used to be, but you can still run a basic X operation for nothing:
- X Advanced Search and Lists (built into X): search by keyword, account, date, and engagement, then save useful accounts to private Lists. This is a free, manual form of social listening.
- Buffer free plan: schedule up to 10 queued posts on each of 3 channels.
- Typefully free plan: write and schedule up to 15 posts a month in a thread-friendly editor.
- Followerwonk free plan: bio search and follower analysis for one profile.
- Circleboom free plan: limited follower audit for one profile.
What you can't get free anymore: X's own account analytics (Premium required) and X Pro (Premium+ required).
Recommended X tool stacks for Indian SMBs
Most small businesses don't need five tools. Here are combinations that cover publishing, measurement, and monitoring at different budgets. Prices exclude GST; software subscriptions billed to Indian customers usually attract 18% GST, either added at checkout or payable under reverse charge if you're GST-registered. Check with your CA.
| Budget | Stack | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| ₹0/month | Buffer free + X Advanced Search and Lists + Followerwonk free | Early-stage startups testing X; you give up native analytics |
| About ₹2,400/month | X Premium on web (₹427) + SocialPilot Standard India (₹2,000) | SMBs posting on X plus 2–4 other networks, with a small team |
| Under ₹1,500/month | X Premium on web (₹427) + Typefully Pro ($8–10) | Founders and consultants building a personal brand on X |
| Agency | SocialPilot Premium India (₹6,000) or Agorapulse, plus Keyhole for campaign reports | Agencies managing several client accounts |
| Larger brand | Sprout Social or Brandwatch, plus X Pro (Premium+) for launch-day monitoring | Brands with customer care and reputation needs on X |
If you also market on other channels, see our guides to Instagram marketing tools, Pinterest marketing tools, and, for many Indian SMBs, WhatsApp marketing platforms (Wati vs AiSensy vs Interakt).
How to choose the right X marketing tool
Start with the job, not the feature list. Decide whether your bottleneck is publishing consistently, understanding results, handling conversations, or tracking what people say. Pick one tool for that job first.
Count accounts and people. Per-user tools (Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Sprout Social) get expensive fast as your team grows. Plan-based tools (SocialPilot, Statusbrew) or per-channel tools (Buffer) are usually cheaper for small teams.
Check thread support. If you post threads, test how the tool previews and schedules them. X-first tools like Typefully handle this best.
Confirm the tool uses X's official API. Tools that scrape X or automate your browser put your account at risk. Reputable vendors say how they connect to X.
Review the permissions you grant. When you connect a tool, X shows whether it can only read your data or also post and send messages. Give write access only to tools that need to publish, and remove apps you no longer use from the connected apps section of your X settings.
For broader tactics beyond tools, see our social media marketing tips and our AI tools directory.
Staying safe: X automation rules you should know
Many 2020-era "growth" tools promised more followers through automated following and unfollowing. That approach now puts your account at real risk. X's rules prohibit:
- Follow churn: following and then unfollowing large numbers of accounts to inflate your follower count.
- Indiscriminate following: following or unfollowing many unrelated accounts in a short time, especially through automation.
- Copying another account's followers, particularly with automation.
- Using or promoting services that claim to add followers.
X's automation rules also warn that scripting the X website instead of using the API can lead to permanent suspension. Automated replies and DMs are allowed in limited cases, such as responding to people who engaged with you first, but unsolicited automated messages count as spam.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best X (Twitter) marketing tool in 2026?
It depends on the job. Typefully is the best X-first tool for writing and scheduling threads. SocialPilot is the best budget all-in-one suite for Indian SMBs and agencies. Agorapulse is best for customer conversations, and Brandwatch is best for enterprise listening.
Is TweetDeck still free?
No. TweetDeck is now called X Pro. It has required a paid X subscription since August 2023, and since March 26, 2026 it requires X Premium+, which costs ₹2,570 per month on web in India.
Are X (Twitter) analytics free?
Not anymore. Since June 2024, X's own account analytics have required an X Premium subscription. Many schedulers, including Buffer, SocialPilot, and Typefully Pro, include their own X analytics.
What happened to Tweepi and Crowdfire?
Tweepi went offline after X cut off free API access in April 2023 and refunded its customers. Crowdfire shut down on May 15, 2025. Circleboom and Followerwonk replace most of Tweepi's useful features, and Buffer or SocialPilot replace Crowdfire's scheduling.
Why did so many Twitter tools stop working?
X ended free API access in 2023 and has repeatedly changed API pricing since. In February 2026, it made pay-per-use pricing the default for new developers. Tools that read large amounts of X data became expensive to run, so many shut down, raised prices, or dropped X features.
Can I still use follow/unfollow automation on X?
You shouldn't. X's rules prohibit follow churn and aggressive or automated following and unfollowing, and violations can lead to account suspension. Use audience tools to find relevant accounts, then follow them manually.
What is the best free X scheduler?
Buffer's free plan is the most practical, with up to 10 queued posts on each of 3 channels. Typefully's free plan is better for writing threads but is limited to 15 posts a month.
How much does X Premium cost in India?
X Premium costs ₹427 per month on web and ₹470 per month in the mobile app. Premium+ costs ₹2,570 per month on web. Prices can change and sometimes include introductory offers, so check X's subscription page before buying.

4. SocialPilot
SocialPilot is one of the few established suites that publishes INR pricing for India, which makes it an easy first pick for Indian SMBs and small agencies. It covers scheduling, bulk uploads, an inbox, analytics, and client management at plan-based prices rather than per-seat prices.
